When teaching the Atlantic Revolutions, we often ask students to analyze how the revolutions affected each other. Although students often notice that many revolutionaries used the idea of “liberty” or the social contract, they often struggle to provide more substance to their comparisons. But what if we looked more closely at what later revolutionaries wrote about earlier revolutionaries?
