I recently discussed how we can help students find missing voices by reading against the grain. We can also use the primary sources associated with Christopher Columbus to understand how Indigenous Americans in the Caribbean might have seen and resisted Columbus and the Europeans. This source can help students understand how resistance to the Spanish began almost as soon as the Spanish arrived.
