Whenever I taught about taxation in world history, I would joke with students about how taxation is everyone’s favorite subject. There rarely is a time when students enjoy learning about tax collection. I tried to use fun primary source documents or exciting anecdotes to make the topic a little more enjoyable. There are a surprising number of translated Ottoman documents when teaching tax farming.
