Even though the United States entered the Second World War in 1941 after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and the Philippines, many Americans still imagine the Second World War as a European war against Hitler and the Nazis. American propaganda often focused more on Germany than Japan, as seen in the poster below.

A quick way to help students reframe their understanding of the Second World War, which began in East Asia, is to have them analyze how different participants portrayed the conflict in Greater East Asia.
